Discrimination of Accents and Slang The discrimination of accents and slang has been an ongoing issue around the world. The U.S is a diverse country with people with different cultures and traditions immigrating to the U.S for a better life. As they are aware that they may face lots of problems like separation and unappreciation from people since they lack the English language. Lots of people would think that they would be easy to take advantage of since they don’t blend in with people who are fluent in English and think people with accents are uneducated and easy to mess with. As generations pass, the newer generation that live or born in the U.S will be fluent in English since English is one of the most spoken languages in America. As some kids and teens go to school and live their lives, they may come across social media since as time flies, technology advances everyday. Kids and teens will follow trends but since kids and teens are still developing, they may learn things off the internet. They would replicate what people say online to make communication easier to the newer generation and would make the older generation feel like they are lacking what’s going on with kids nowadays. It makes them viewed as unintelligent and unprofessional. This is what change can affect the newer generation over time. As for accents, they are viewed as attempting, but still unintelligent to some people. The perspectives from other people were viewed as unequal and giving people unfair treatment due to their backgrounds. People overtime learn new things since lots of things change as life proceeds. People who speak different languages have been following their parent’s traditions and lifestyles so they can carry their family’s legacy. The challenges of maintaining their traditions in the U.S is risking the ability to speak due to the life factors of learning English. The majority of kids living in the U.S mostly speak English. Not everyone is lucky enough to be fluent in English and have similar accents to people that do. Having accents doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re different and separated from other people in their neighborhoods. Many people can try to do their best with communication and convey respect toward others by seeing them try. Not everyone’s first language is English so it’s not supposed to be a full English world with similar accents. People can learn English but still have accents due to their previous language. There are some people that want to be taken seriously, but other people don’t convey respect towards them. Most people want to learn English since they want to blend in what people want to learn nowadays and how English is a recognition that every country with different cultures and languages are not viewed as too recognized. People who live in English speaking areas tend to do their best and not cause large problems due to their lack of consistency of speaking English. Many people may violate some English rules like the “there’s” and the contractions like “well and we’ll” may be confusing to beginners of learning English. They may be intelligent in their own language, but unsure about speaking and understanding English. That’s why it’s important to see that people are trying their best to communicate with others by being judged by their accents just because English is not their first language. With this image this depicts that slang can be used everywhere and anytime. This is important because the amount of people saying these words can make connections more enhanced. Although people may sound repetitive and uneducated by saying these words, but it may be useful to build connections and bonding. As for slang, people create slang every year or every new generation. This is due to people who follow them on social media or around their surroundings. They may be at risk of becoming less interested in learning the words that are educational and become more active in abusing these words until eventually, they will use them in public. To which people seem unprofessional and inappropriate. People with knowledge of slang can evolve over time since kids really like to learn new words and play around by saying them. For most people, adults are concerned that slang over time can be overwhelming to understand since they didn’t learn this much slang when they were in their age. Some people are doing their best to educate their kids to become successful and not to be with mostly slang. Slang can be a good way to communicate when there is not a place for formal communication like parks, someone’s house for a visit, and in public. It’s important to consider that people should maintain slang to an adequate limit so they won’t be seen as too immature. People overtime don’t have the power to diminish slang overtime since it can be a trend on social media. As long as people don’t abuse saying those words, they can express amusement and connections for people to enjoy. Unfortunately, kids are learning new slang that can ruin their future if they continue to keep developing new words. People are concerned that slang in the future will control the new vocabulary of the previous words in the dictionary. Some of these words are in dictionaries like “sigma”, “skibidi”, etc. The amount of people who say these words are making these new words being recognized in the dictionaries. Teens that follow trends on Tiktok also follow words that kids made popular in social media. People can’t have words that make them sound foolish and leave the old traditions of communicating with other people with slang being a problem to most people. With accents and slang, these can lead to concerns over time since people in the US are known to speak “good” English when communicating. This article states that accents and slang can lead to the disconnection to other people with different age groups and personalities. People who are also learning new languages can overcome accents and could learn some slang when learning other languages since people tend to say them, even without knowing they are learning slang. That’s why people should take people seriously with accents. As for slang, they should diminish the use of slang depending on the environment. This can help to improve people’s perspectives on how people learn English in their own time and effort. As for slang, it can build connections and make them feel that they blend in a group that appreciates them for trying. They are also people so it’s important to see them as a normal person that also hold emotions and them also having goals. The amount of pressure people put on other people just to feel that they are causing problems just by the way they speak. People should understand that all people are different and have different backgrounds and origins of where their accents are often found and why they are unique just for being different from others. The problem is that people are unable to blend in a friend group and communities just because they are seen as incomprehensible and not worth their time to talk to. People need to understand that they are also human and also have feelings about their ways of living. Viewing them as not worthy to encounter and connect would make them feel less valuable and unmotivated for negativity judging them. People can be the the cause of low self-esteem due to their judgment being too impactful to people with accents and could cause them to lose a lot of confidence. With all the perspectives of people who went through discrimination, it is important to realize that most people can change how they lived their lives. Unfortunately people in general don’t view themselves as reliable because of how they sounded around others. It’s hard to handle self-doubt with all this commotion. People receive unwanted attention from people who are judgemental and don’t see the consequences of what they are perceiving them as they have feelings and some people can be sensitive to what they were told. Not everyone can handle being judged by what they say. People just don’t understand how many people feel insecure about themselves and people need to understand that things are changing and following what’s new in the world. Not everything is going to be the same forever.
